Idea Generation and Planning:
Here is my idea generation and planning stage for the 'Fly on the Wall' Documentary.
Idea Generation:
The idea generation for this particular small piece of work was to create a small documentary for the college catwalk, but before that we had to create a first cut of people making their outfits. To do this I thought about just going to the first classroom and taking video of whatever was going on, people sewing, ironing, gluing paper to a dress etc. I didn't fully have a plan, but I did as I knew what I wanted to find. Once I had every component that I needed it was time to start editing my first cut, I found that it was really fun and interesting to edit what you've got and create it into a small little video. I had some trouble with what I might want at the beginning of my video yet I managed to get it done and it turned out pretty well. The second piece of footage we needed of the final fashion show, it did make me very anxious because we wouldn't know how long their going to be on the catwalk for so it did put a little pressure on me, I felt like it the end it all turned out okay. Me and my other students in our group worked together filming and taking photographs of the night. I did photography for the night, which again put a little bit of pressure on me because I didn't know what it's going to be like in the changing rooms, however the atmosphere was really good they were all calm and wanting to have a good time. I also had to take photographs outside on the catwalk too, which was really interesting and it was really fun to do.
Planning:
I was asked to create a small documentary about the College Fashion Show. In class we had created a small advertising campaign to quickly demonstrate what the other students had created thus far, in this we had to use Adobe Premiere which meant learning lots of key skills and figuring out different techniques which we would need to master. The first video we did due to the catwalk was our ‘Film and Photography’ group and they kept changing their clothes, the music group made something interesting and we decided to create a fun and quirky video to show off the other art groups clothes that would be put forward and be used in the fashion, of which they would be modelling. I found this task to be really fun and entertaining to us all, it helped us with knowing how to direct people and how if pulled of correctly the outcomes would be interesting. I've put below my first documentary cut.
Here is a screenshot of the planning on the night of the fashion show. I wanted to get as much as I could within quite a short amount of time, I wanted to get lots of photographs of the dresses, people fixing the clothes and people putting on make – up and many more.
