Stereotypes and Role Models:
Here I'm going to describe model stereotypes and look up different role models.
all models are blonde/blue (never mind Beverly Johnson or Janice Dickinson)
all models are snobs and / or vain (some are, some aren't...there are plenty of non-models who are snobs or vain) all models get the guy and keep him (Christie Brinkley lost 4 husband) all models are party girls (most aren't...that is if they want to keep their careers) all models are dumb (not true...many of them put themselves through college with modeling, and then go on to other careers when the modeling is over.) |
all models are "perfect" (never mind Lauren Hutton and the gap between her front teeth, or Cindy Crawford's facial mole)
all models are thin (what about plus size supermodels like Emme?) all models are anorexic or bulemic (some are, but most aren't) all models are gold diggers (some are, most aren't) |
I think that these stereotypes are really silly.
I don't understand the stereotype that all models are blonde haired and have blue eyes. Tyra Banks doesn't have blonde hair and she doesn't have blue eyes, and yet she's a supermodel who has her own TV programme this also goes with the stereotype that all models are dumb, how can she be dumb when she has her own programme. Some models might be dumb, however some do go through colleges with modelling, and then get a kickstart in their careers.
The stereotype that all models are thin / anorexic is completely irrational. There are some models out there that are anorexic, that much is true however there are also many models out there who are just naturally skinny and maybe have a little bit of curve to their shape. I also dislike the fact that there are no credits to people who are "plus size" models (we should just call them models), their never shown in magazines, or none that I've looked at anyway. However, these beautiful and natural looking women prove that they can hold their own among with the thinner set.
Most models are not dumb this is a ridiculous statement. Lots of models who make it and do really well in their profession and do well, are the ones that fall into the categories that have other goals and dreams outside of the modelling world. Modelling is a job at the end of the day, and you would be surprised of how many models want to pack / save up and go onto college / university.
Not all models are of course drug addicts, yes there are always going to be people who take advantage of their glamorous lifestyle and take drugs, but just because there models, doesn’t mean that they all take them. They might have ridiculous hours, and people assume that they do drugs to stay awake, however that’s not true there’s are some of the hard working people in this profession. This is called sucking it up and they just get on with their jobs at the end of the day.
There are definitely some models that do party all the time; models that go out all the time don’t book jobs. They do go out, yes however they do go out and have a good time however not to the point of exhaustion. There is a time and a place for a party night, and when you have to get for work the next day is completely inappropriate.

WHAT IS A ROLE MODEL?
A role model is someone who other individuals aspire to be like, either in the present or in the future. A role model may be someone who you know and interact with on a regular basis, or may be someone who you've never met, such as a celebrity. Common role models include well known actors, public figures such as police men or political officials, teachers or other educators, and parents or other family members. |
FAMOUS ROLE MODELS WE"D LIKE TO MEET:
Albert Einstein - While best known for his mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2 (which has been dubbed "the world's most famous equation") Elvis Presley - grew up to become one of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll. Abraham Lincoln - Lincoln’s acts of kindness and empathy for his fellow countrymen are not only the hallmark of every great leader, but also great lessons for us John Lennon - took action against war and racism, and denounced oppression and violence. John F. Kennedy - suspected to have a near genius I.Q and have the ability to read an astounding 1200 words a minute. Martin Luther King, JR - started out as a young speaker for his father's church. From the start, his personality was filled with bravery and determination. Each of his words were listened to by many and they still are to this day, passed on from year to year. His thoughts have helped people to become better. Stephen Hawking - Hawking had the daunting task of enduring his illness while keeping up with the world of quantum physics. Eventually, he received a present from a college friend. The present was a revolutionary new computer that attached to his wheelchair and would talk for him. He now had a way to write his papers and lecture to students. It seemed that his life was now getting better. He had overcome all fears of dying and not being capable of continuing his research. |
